HOW TO PLAY BACCARAT

GUIDE TO BACCARAT RULES

The table game, Baccarat, attracts all sorts of players. From the beginner-gamblers to the high rollers, the regulars, and even the superstitious! It is fair to assume that the baccarat rules are easy enough to understand while being simple enough to enjoy at the same time, which is why so many enjoy today’s game! This guide covers everything you need to know about the rules of baccarat, and it is a perfect addition to our guide on how to play baccarat.

NEED-TO-KNOW BACCARAT RULES

Baccarat, instead of playing with your own set of cards, is a card game where you bet on an outcome.

HAND VALUES RULES

Since there are 13 different types of cards in a deck of cards, it is easy to understand the card values of online baccarat. There’s no need for all 13 cards to keep track.

  • All cards between 2 and 9 are valued at their face value. So, a 2 is valued 2, a 5 is valued 5, etc.
  • 10, Jack, Queen, and King are all valued at 10.
  • The Ace is valued at 1.

BACCARAT BETS RULES

Although baccarat’s key bets are almost similar, there are minor variations in the rules of baccarat that make them special. Knowing the differences in the rules of baccarat betting will allow you to make thought-through choices about which bet to put.

PLAYER

A bet on the hand of the player means you’ve bet on getting closer to nine than the bankers on this hand. You’ll get a bonus of 1:1 if you win. One player-specific rule is that if the sum of the first two cards is less than 5, that hand will be dealt a third card. The edge of the player’s bet is 1.24%.

BANKER

The Banker’s same-same-but-different hand. This is the most popular bet to play online at casinos because it has the lowest house edge with a mere 1.06% of all bets. The explanation for this is that if the player has been awarded a third card, the banker hand would behave differently. Something in a bit we’ll take a look at. However, this bet only pays 19:20 (0.9:1) in exchange for the low house side, due to something known as a 5 percent commission fee.

TIE

The Tie is the least likely bet of the three main bets to win, but it comes with a mouth-watering 8:1 payout. It allows the player and the hand of the banker to have the same worth. In contrast to the other two, the Tie Bet House Edge is very high:

  • 6-deck game: 14.44% house edge
  • 8-deck game: 14.36% house edge

THIRD CARD RULE

As mentioned in the baccarat rules about Player bet, whenever that bet has a value of under 5, the third card is added. If a third card is added will depend on what happens to the Banker’s hand.

HOUSE ADVANTAGE

When discussing the banker bet, we listed commission earlier in our guide that there is a 5 percent commission fee attached to that bet. The explanation is because of the edge of the lower house on that side. The Banker wins 45.87 percent of the cards, loses 44.63 percent and ties 9.51 percent while playing at an 8-deck table with traditional baccarat rules. The player wins 44.63% of the time, loses 45.87%, and ties almost as much as the banker.

TABLE LAYOUT

Baccarat players would be delighted to know that one of the simplest of all online casino games available is the baccarat table layout. The table normally consists of just two pieces, one called ‘PLAYER’ and one called ‘BANKER.’ And that’s it! On your digital betting interface, all betting choices, side bet options, and baccarat statistics are displayed.
